“Resisting Sharia Law and Its Indoctrination”

From Donna Garner

[COMMENTS FROM DONNA GARNER: Parents, Texas elected officials, and the general public are pushing back as the Muslims try to force their belief system on our state and nation.

Wylie ISD in Wylie, Texas, just had an incident occur whereby an outside group distributed Qurans and other Islam materials to students during the school day.

Please read on to gain more insight.

“Muslim Group of North Texas High School Prompts Investigation”

By Gwen Howerton

Excerpts from this article:

https://www.chron.com/culture/article/texas-school-muslim-group-21333273.php

Wylie Independent School District said Tuesday it would investigate after an outside group distributed Qurans and other materials about Islam to students during lunch period at Wylie East High School, located in Wylie, Texas. Allowing Muslims to proseletize

WHY ISLAM, a Muslim advocacy group, distributed Qurans, reading materials, and hijabs for students to try on Monday
[2.9.26].

Students were also offered henna tattoos.

By that evening, videos of the group's on-campus presence went viral and were shared by conservative influencers on X.

…The incident was soon amplified by anti-Muslim activist Amy Mek, who shared videos from the high school's Young Republican club.

Mek claimed on X that WHY ISLAM was engaged in "Islamic proselytizing - aimed directly at your children inside a taxpayer-funded school."

[COMMENTS FROM DONNA GARNER: I found the following letter online (public information) from Wylie ISD Supt. Kim Spicer dated 2.4.26.

Because the letter is in pdf format and does not have a URL (http) to which the public can go to see the original, I have gone through the pdf and broken it up into smaller paragraphs.  However, the content of the letter has not been changed.]

“Statement from Kim Spicer, Superintendent, Wylie Public Schools, Wylie, Texas”

Kim Spicer posted in Wylie East High School

Update for Our Wylie East Families

2.4.26

I appreciate your continued patience as we work through the events that occurred at Wylie East on Monday. This situation has understandably raised concerns and questions, and I am grateful for the grace many of you have extended during our ongoing investigation.

I recognize there has been some confusion and want to provide clarity. All communication regarding this situation has come from Wylie ISD, not Wylie East High School.

This is a district-led investigation into a campus-level incident.
As stated in our previous email, district administrators were not made aware of the visit until Monday evening via a social media post.

The visitors entered through the front office and followed standard check-in procedures.
They presented identification, stated they were visiting a student club, and were processed through the Raptor screening system.

They were issued visitor badges and escorted by a staff member to set up a table in the main hallway outside the cafeteria during lunch.

The staff member did not confirm the purpose of the visit or verify that the required guest speaker approval process had been completed.

As a result, the staff member was placed on leave yesterday while our Human Resources team conducts a full investigation.

Additional disciplinary action may follow based on the outcome of that review.

WHAT WE KNOW

We've reviewed security footage and gathered staff accounts to understand what happened.

Here are the key facts:

Women representing the organization, Why Islam, came to campus to meet with the Muslim Student Association
[MSA] to spotlight World Hijab Day.

A table was set up in the hallway, where the women and members of the MSA club laid out a spin wheel, a photo frame, candy, scarves, hijabs, Why Islam-branded bags, and literature.

That literature included pamphlets and copies of the Quran.

These materials were not reviewed nor approved in advance, and Wylie ISD does not allow the distribution of any religious materials to students, regardless of the group or message.

This is a clear violation of board policy, and we regret and share in the frustration that this occurred.

Fewer than 50 students visited the table. Most took a piece of candy and walked away.

Fewer than 10 students voluntarily picked up pamphlets or copies of the Quran.

Visitors did not actively hand out materials
but offered a bag to students who chose to take items

Approximately 4 to 5 students received henna designs, and about a dozen tried on scarves or hijabs. Some students also had photos taken using the frame.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

We are taking this seriously, and while I know many are looking for immediate changes, we want to be thoughtful and thorough. Rushing policies in moments like this often leads to confusion or unintended consequences.

Any steps we take now will affect all student clubs across the district moving forward, and it's important that we get it right.

As part of our review, we are actively examining protocols and processes in areas related to club visitors, including the following

Guest speaker approval procedures across all campuses

Expectations for club sponsors, including their responsibility to verify and follow procedures

Where and when clubs are allowed to meet or host activities during the school day

Clear limitations on the use of public/common areas (like cafeterias and hallways) for club events

Comprehensive training for club/organization sponsors

Staff training on visitor oversight

Strengthening communication between campuses and district-level leadership

Consequences for clubs or organizations that do not follow district guidelines

More visible and accountable systems for tracking guest approvals

Adding final administrative checks before visitors are allowed to interact with students

Making sure families understand what student clubs are active at each campus and how they function

This list isn't final, and more updates will come, but I want to assure you that this is not being brushed aside. We are working to ensure our systems better reflect families' expectations for transparency and student safety.

I want to say plainly that I am deeply disappointed and frustrated that this situation occurred.

Public schools are not the place for promoting personal belief systems or outside agendas.

They are spaces where students should feel safe, supported, and focused on learning, building relationships with peers, and preparing for life after high school.

When our systems fail, we must own that and take steps to prevent it from happening again.

We let you down, and I am sorry.

Thank you for your partnership and high expectations for our schools and district. We are committed to getting this right. We will keep you updated.

[FROM DONNA GARNER]
First, before tackling this subject, we need to be sure we know the following definitions commonly used:

SHARIA LAW
: a religious-legal/ethical tradition within Islam (many interpretations; often personal practice, sometimes part of state law).

CAIR: a U.S. civil-rights/advocacy organization focused on Muslim civil liberties and public relations.

ANTIFA: a decentralized political movement/label opposing fascism, sometimes using confrontational protest tactics.

QURAN  the sacred scripture of Islam, believed by Muslims to be the literal word of God revealed to the Prophet Muhammad over 23 years.

ISLAM – a monotheistic (one-God) religion that teaches there is only one true God, called Allah (the Arabic word for God), and that people should live in obedience to Him.

MUSLIM BELIEFS: -- God (Allah) --  same one God worshiped by Jews and Christians.

MUHAMMAD – God’s final prophet.

Importantly Sharia is not recognized as a legal system in Texas, and only Texas and U.S. laws are enforceable.

These are some of the biggest conflicts between Sharia and Texas law:

Eligibility for marriage, polygamy, authority over divorces, rules for child custody, inheritance issues, punishments for crimes, and the freedom for a person to leave a religion.

In Texas (and I feel sure many other states are the same), the crimes and punishments are set by the legislature.

Texas does not permit religious law (e.g., Sharia Law) to define what constitutes a crime.

In Texas (and in most states), people are free to follow their religious rules privately. They may choose to have both a religious marriage ceremony and a civil marriage; but whatever their religious beliefs are, those do not override Texas’ statutes and constitutional rights.

[
In many Muslim countries, Muslim men are allowed to marry Christian women; but Muslim women are not allowed to marry non-Muslim men.]
