“Texas SBOE Voted To Teach History in Logical Order”
From Donna Garner

[COMMENTS BY DONNA GARNER: After much study and consideration, the elected members of the Texas State Board of Education on 9.12.25 decided to revamp the present history standards/curriculum.
The wonderful news is that the majority of the members voted to make sure history is taught chronologically – in other words, in the order in which historical events took place.
To most people, that sounds as if it is a “given” because of the nature of the subject of history.
“Of course, history should be taught in the order in which it happened so that students can connect events in their memories!”
History used to be taught chronologically; but, unfortunately, in 2013 Obama’s Common Core was forced into almost every school in America.
The curriculum quickly changed from the fact-based teaching of well-documented information to the complete indoctrination of students’ minds with an emphasis on feelings, opinions, emotions, LGBTQ, and the social justice agenda.
Over a few years, this then grew into the complete focus of our schools becoming CRT/DEI/WOKE which has led to the militancy of many of today’s youth.
Now we see the results of such indoctrination:
- the ruthless killing of Charlie Kirk;
- transgenderism and its heinous surgeries;
- the rise of antisemitism;
- the ever-increasing numbers of abortions;
- the twisted minds that think it is all right to hold protests and kill innocent victims;
- the public defaming and shaming of anyone with whom they disagree;
- the physical attacks on law enforcement; and
- ironically the lack of respect for all authority figures including teachers (many of whom helped to instill Obama’s Common Core, anti-American ideas into the minds of their students).
Common Core pushed teachers in literature and history NOT to tie those subjects to historical nor current events – and definitely NOT to give any context behind events.
Teachers no longer taught students about the historical influences and social mores of the time periods.
Because of Common Core, if historical documents from the Founding Fathers were taught at all, they were taught in a sterile, manipulative manner to indoctrinate rather than to educate.
I am very thankful to say that the Texas SBOE has just taken a very different approach.
Now Texas public school students will be taught “history as it happened” – in chronological order without Obama’s twisted Common Core agenda.
By teaching fact-based history in a logical sequence, students’ brains will be better able to tie events together in their long-term memory.]

“State Board of Education Revamps Texas History, Adopts Chronology-Based Curriculum”
By Logan Washburn
The State Board of Education voted 8-7 on Sept. 12 [2025] to adopt a chronological framework [for the teaching of history]…
Texas History is currently taught in fourth and seventh grades, but the new sequence will take students through the history of Texas, America, and the world from early civilization to the present.
…The board decided between two options, as The Dallas Express reported prior to the vote.
…Option G, which passed, is a chronological narrative from prehistory to the present, splitting each year between the history of the world, Texas, and America…
It begins in third grade with the origin of Western Civilization and culminates with a U.S. and Texas Capstone in eighth grade.
[Obama’s Common Core way was “Option D.2.”]
Option D.2 [not taught chronologically] …would teach students social studies by subject – from Texas History in third grade, to world cultures and history, to a blend of Texas and U.S. History in eighth grade.
Earlier this week, a committee voted to advance Option D.2.
…The group behind the alternative framework [Option D.2] was the Texas Council for the Social Studies [TCSS], as The Dallas Express previously reported.
[Former SBOE Member Pat Hardy] said when TCSS worked on curriculum standards in 2022, it pushed “transgender” content for eighth graders.
“There is a very left-leaning, progressive attitude in that group,” Hardy said.
However, during the September 12, 2025 meeting, SBOE members substituted Option G [chronological] in its place, passing the new framework.
…The New Framework – Teaching By Chronology – Option G

Option G, which passed, is a chronological narrative from prehistory to present
From kindergarten to second grade, the sequence discusses “Stories of America and Texas” with important people, events, places, ideas, and traditions.
In third grade, students will begin learning about the development of Western Civilization and early civilization in America and Texas, before 500 A.D.
From fourth to seventh grade, “student expectations spiral back to connect to content introduced in prior grades.”
In fourth grade, students will discuss the growth of empires in Western Civilization – and in America and Texas – from 500 to 1500 A.D.
In fifth grade, teachers will discuss content including the beginnings of America, and Texas under Spanish control, from 1500 to 1800 A.D.
In sixth grade, students will learn about imperialism and the growth of the Texas and American experiments up to 1900.
In seventh grade, students will learn about “the American century,” “the Texas miracle,” and “the perils of communism and the establishment of new nations.”
In eighth grade, students will complete a U.S. and Texas Capstone class, focusing at least 80 percent on Texas history and up to 20 percent on American history.
Under the alternative [Option D.2. -- the Common Core way], students would have taken classes on different topics throughout history.
This would have taught Texas History as its own class in third grade, then blended Texas and American history in seventh and eighth grade.
[When history is “blended” or smushed together as with Option D.2. [the Common Core way], students would have no clear, logical, chronological understanding of each sequential event.]
